Life of 4th year KGPian

Well in 4th year Kgp life, if you are final year student and you are not expecting a PPO, then your life is going to get very busy. People start preparing for GRE, CAT, UPSC, GMAT, IES, GATE and other career oriented options. Many people are stressed out and under extreme pressure regarding the placements which start in December. People generally form groups and prepare for GD, PI, case interviews, guesstimates, etc. so as to get head-start. But really the most important part of 7th semester is realizing that you have wasted past three year doing unnecessary things and regret for acting and behaving like a child while preparing your CV. People also start envying their dual degree batch mates as they simply enjoy their semester without any tension.
The pressure on each student to perform well and study hard increases as December nears and even the 6 pointers become "MAGGU" and study hard because it's the real test and will pave your future in a significant way. I have seen people tensed and worried eyeing companies and discussing various job roles, specifically for the non-core as its an uncharted territory of high paying jobs for most students.

PLACEMENT SESSION @KGP

It's strange thing but true that on first three days only CS, EC, EE guys get placed along with the student members of GYMKHANA and other high student positions of college like PLACECOM. Also the CGPA cutoff for most companies for first 3-4 days is usually above 8.
After 3 days, people start getting placed based on their knowledge or interest in Software like Java, C++, R, etc. and also of course the extracurricular activates at institute level. Also people who have inclination towards going in core start getting placed.
People after a few days start getting frustrated if not placed and lose self confidence which is tough and I have seen people start applying to positions and jobs they don't like just for the sake of getting placed. This a hard time and people realize the importance of true friendship and support from their loved ones.
Once you get placed you feel like you are on top of the world and anything is achievable. Also it goes just like everything is well that ends well.

(Myth broken)

The average placement package of 2014-15 placement session is 7 lpa, with highest CTC being 32lpa for domestic and 80 lpa for foreign. But most people get placed near 6-8 lpa or even below because you are a fresher and you don't know much. There is generally a training period of 1 year after which companies increase salary.
Also many companies recruiting from IITs are startups or MNCs. So in a few years people manage to have a good package, but don't think of getting above 15 lpa easily from campus placements unless you are from CS or MATHS.

Post placement

After getting placed people generally lose interest in studies completely as grades won't matter anymore. Professors also understand the situation and show leniency. The 8th semester is all about passing time, figuring out your future and relaxing peacefully for the final time. People generally make a to do list, "Things to do before graduating" and go on enjoying their life.

GV and BTP

These are only things any 4th year is worried about in final semester but from personal experience it doesn't require any extra effort as nearly all people get like B grade as professors want to be done with students too. They just enjoy asking easy and simple questions, so simple that you won't be able to answer unless you have strong basics which is rare.

Also in the end people realize that college is the best thing that happened to them and finally feel satisfied for the hard-work they did to enter into an IIT.
